Saturday the congested road between the Colosseum and the Roman Forum was blocked to public traffic in the first phase of the conversion of this area into a pedestrian area which, despite arousing criticism from businesses, is of vital importance, according to the mayor.

Vehicles circulating around the Colosseum blocked traffic and honked their horns hours before the closure of this road. This is the last time that the cars would take the route immortalized by the return in scooter by Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck in "Holidays in Rome”, 1953.

In this 2,000-year-old Colosseum where gladiators fought bloody battles for the entertainment of large crowds, it has been deteriorated by the pollution of traffic near its walls.

Mayor Ignacio Marino hopes to transform the area into a archaeological park from the closure of most of the Fori Imperiali road, 1.1 km from the Colosseum to the marble giant of Víctor Emmanuel.

Marino explains that you must choose between cars or assess the monuments. Since his election two months ago, this politician has made his style clear, riding his bike to his meetings, and with the extraordinary speed of the city's pedestrianization plans.

For now, taxis and public transport remain in service circulating on the road that connects Piazza Venezia with the Colosseum, in the framework of an experimental plan in August, as local residents leave the capital. Cars can still circulate in the south east part of the stadium.

I am currently studying Journalism and Audiovisual Communication at the Rey Juan Carlos University, which has made me inclined towards the international section, including the study of languages. For this reason, I do not rule out teaching myself. I also like to practice physical exercise and spend a pleasant time chatting with my acquaintances and with new people. Finally, I enjoy traveling to know the authentic culture of each region of the world, although I admit that before I need to find out as much as possible about the place I'm going to visit, to fully enjoy the experience.
